14 years ago I packed a rucksack and moved from London to Glasgow.

I came up to work on Kirstie's Homemade Home for C4. I walked to work my first day and by 5:30 people started putting on their coats to go home – that sealed the deal for me.

It's a beautiful day here today - and a reminder of why I stayed. We can see mountains from the office window, 15m to drive in – I could have easily walked or cycled. I have 2 Scottish children, a healthy work life balance and still no hint of an accent - much as I try.

We have a great life – often found (arguing over snacks) at the top of a hill. Or out on our bikes, skimming stones at the beach or building a den somewhere. We own very robust wet weather gear for the winter, but have lovely summers - not frazzling in 40 degree heat.

TV production is booming in Scotland. Rates are similar to London. I can’t guarantee everyone in production goes home at 5:30! But it’s certainly not the norm to hear of people working crazy hours.

Dragon's Den, Weakest Link, Amazing Hotels, Homes Under the Hammer, Location, Location, Location, Antiques Road Trip (and any other Fact Ent antiques programme you can think of), Food Unwrapped and Love it Or List It are all produced out of Glasgow. Studio Ramsay have recently opened an office here as have Ricochet and Rogan.
